EXXARO COLLABORATIVE PORTRAIT PROJECT

I conceptualized this project as a way of honouring the contribution of the worker in the South African mining industry.

It also serves as a platform to showcase the work of various local artists from varying professional levels, the youngest being 8 and the oldest 68 years old. The crowd-sourced initiative started as an open invitation to art schools, galleries, design studios and artist networks to paint the portrait of a worker from the Groottegeluk mine in Lephalale.

Photographic reference of Exxaro workers was obtained with the support of the Exxaro excecutive as well as with the permission of the workers. In this way they are represented in the Boardroom of the company they serve.
